Animal Success Stories

PAWS of Hertford County has adopted out or placed more than 4000 animals since August 2006.  Our animals are in good homes all over northeastern North Carolina, west to Raleigh, southeast to New Bern, and as far north as Virginia, Maryland and even New Jersey. We are thrilled to receive updates and pictures from the families of these wonderful cats and dogs.  If you would like your new PAWS family member to be posted on our website, please send to pawsofhertfordcounty@yahoo.com.

Hershey and Callie
Hershey and Callie

Look at these two happy cats! Hershey and Callie were adopted last fall by Daniel McCamish. Daniel writes: "These two cats came into my life last Summer. For several weeks I visited them in their cages as a volunteer at PAWS. In September I assisted with an adoption booth at the Ahoskie Heritage Day festival. After a long hot day of entertaining children they still had not been adopted. Instead of going back to the shelter they went home with me. Now they enjoy a ten acre litter box with lots of trees to climb, rodents to chase, and a two hundred year old farmhouse to explore. Hershey was hiding a surprise in his fur which became apparent this Spring. All the hair lightened from black to a rusty brown except for dark points on the ears, face, feet and tail. I suspect that one of his grandparents was a Siamese. When he sits upright, his profile is like that of an Egyptian cat statue. Callie is a most efficient hunter. The other day she had something in her mouth that looked like a mouse but it was hissing more like a possum. She brought it straight to me. The little bat flashed sharp needle-like teeth and fought for its life before extending soft pointed wings and flying away into the night. I'm glad PAWS is there to give people who enjoy animals an opportunity to meet one another and work together in their care."

Puff and Ashton, now Luke and Noah
Puff and Ashton, now Luke and Noah

Lori Carter of Suffolk writes: "Kyle and I adopted Luke and Noah a week after we returned from our honeymoon. However, they were adopted in my heart long before we took them home. They both are doing beauitfully and are each weighing in at 5 pounds at 16 weeks. They are perfectly healthy, love to eat (kitty food and would love it if Mom & Dad would give them people food), all the time playing and fighting with each other, and curl up with us each night. Adopting Luke and Noah has enriched our lives so much and really has helped us grow together. We each love them so much, and they really are the first "grandchildren" for my mother. She even tells them to call her "Grammy" :). Thank you for keeping watch over both of them. They truly are a blessing to our life." (Note: Puff and Ashton are littermates of Charlie and Mya!)

Rosie

"My wife and I adopted Rosie from Paws of Hertford County on August 29th. I have to say that we're very happy with her. She's still making the adjustment to being an inside pet, but she loves sleeping on the bed with us (she's something of a bed hog)."

Madyson and Microtia
Madyson and Microtia

"Hi! My husband and I adopted two little tiny calico kittens from you all last summer; you may remember them because one was a little special...she was missing an ear. Well, I have been wanting to stop by the shelter to tell ya'll how well they have been and how happy and grateful we are to have them but I just haven't had the time. So, now I am finally getting a chance too! The cats are absolutely wonderful they love our daughters and ofcourse the girls love them! We would be lost without them! :)" The Henderson Family

Rosalie
Rosalie

"Hi Folks, I wanted to let you know Rosalie has been adopted by a very nice family (Mom, Dad, 14yo daughter) who live southwest of Asheville, NC. They are longtime GSD owners whose last dog died of old age, and they have been patiently waiting for a puppy since May. They're very committed to giving her proper training as they have with their past GSDs. I've chatted with them over the past couple of weeks, they're wonderful people who live up in the mountains and have 15 acres for Rosalie to explore, but of course she'll be confined to her yard for the near future. I drove out to Statesville today to meet them part-way and deliver her, she jumped all over them and was her usual social little self. She'll have all the attention she can handle for a long time, she's a real sweetie ;) I REALLY enjoyed having her here, and know she's going to be a great dog for a great family. She's growing really fast, learning fast, and has gone 2 weeks w/o any accidents in the house (and 8 days before then)." Regards, Eric
