Animal Success Stories

PAWS of Hertford County has adopted out or placed more than 4000 animals since August 2006.  Our animals are in good homes all over northeastern North Carolina, west to Raleigh, southeast to New Bern, and as far north as Virginia, Maryland and even New Jersey. We are thrilled to receive updates and pictures from the families of these wonderful cats and dogs.  If you would like your new PAWS family member to be posted on our website, please send to pawsofhertfordcounty@yahoo.com.

Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill

Brother and sister Jack (Brindle) and Jill (Yellow) were found in a ditch discarded, alone, and emaciated by a good samaratin and brought to the shelter. They didn't stay long. The wonderful Curtis family from Virginia Beach found them online and immediately called to make a claim on these two adorable puppies. Their nightmarish, cruel beginning over, these two now have a wonderful life ahead of them.

Rosie, now Zieva
Rosie, now Zieva

Rosa Griffin from Ayden writes, speaking for Rosie, now Zieva: "HAPPY VALENTINES DAY----I HAVE BEEN HERE A WEEK. I have made myself at home and have full run of the house and a private space and litter box. Sassy and BJ have been very nice to me. Jazzy and her daughter Sieda hiss at me a lot but let me eat with them. The boy cat Spot stays outside mostly but he growls at me. So does the Maine coon boy Tinker------he's afraid of me because I chased him down the hall the first day I was home He pouted outside in the gazebo a day or two, then he spent a couple of days on a shelf in the closet. Now he just ignores me. The only scary thing was Buffy the retriever--but she's old and has a kitty mammawho washes her face. She's really a sweet dog. Because I am so fearless, my name has been changed to Zieva---like the Massad Op. on NCIS. Thanks for taking care of me 'til my newmamma came to get me."

Stella
Stella

Stephanie Holt tells the wonderful story of Stella's adoption. Her persistance and faith that there is a home out there for every dog not only saved Stella's life, but got her into the best home possible. "Stella was unwanted and brought to the shelter. Her days were numbered. I worked with her and she was a quick study at fetch and very loving." Stella was adopted by Mary Ann Edwards and her daughter Betty. "They love Stella and she graduated from Petsmart Obedience school. Stella had to have teeth pulled. She had heart worms and lymes disease and they treated her for all of them and she is very healthy and happy now." "This is the best adoption I have ever assisted in by far. I love this girl." Stella is shown here with Mary Ann at her graduation from Obedience School. Look at those happy grins!

Lexie
Lexie

James Roberts of Conway prepares to leave the shelter with Lexie, a beautiful white Samoyed. Lexie is going to home to join a family with twin 6 year old girls named Megan and Kayleigh.
