Animal Success Stories

PAWS of Hertford County has adopted out or placed more than 4000 animals since August 2006.  Our animals are in good homes all over northeastern North Carolina, west to Raleigh, southeast to New Bern, and as far north as Virginia, Maryland and even New Jersey. We are thrilled to receive updates and pictures from the families of these wonderful cats and dogs.  If you would like your new PAWS family member to be posted on our website, please send to pawsofhertfordcounty@yahoo.com.

Faith, now Molly

Molly's new family writes: "Hi Betty, Faith's name has been changed to Molly. Here is a picture of her relaxing in the back yard with us. I refer to her as Little Miss Molly. She is fantastic. She is settling in nicely. She goes for a daily walk, walks great on a leash (until she sees a squirrel), sits before touching her food, sits on command, comes to the word come, hasn't had any accidents in the house, is so gentle and loving with my 8 month old grandaughter. Steve finally heard her bark tonight when I started to vacuum. I am waiting for her to finish healing from her surgery before I take her to play with my daughters dogs, she is very social and polite when we meet other dogs on our walks. The only thing we have to be so patient with her on is her separation anxiety. We can not move without her following one of us and laying right under our feet. I can only image what this little girl went through in her life already. She is slowly learning that we are not leaving her forever. She does not like to go in her crate if we need to go out during the day. She sleeps in it well at night. You told me on the phone that you thought Molly and I would be a great match and you are right. She is the perfect companion for both Steve and myself. I thank all the people at P.A.W.S. for taking care of her until we found our way to each other. I am sure we are going to enjoy her for many years to come." MLM

Jonah
Jonah

"Hi Betty, here are some pictures of Jonah A.K.A Jo. He is now eleven months old, he's heard all about his Aunt Betty I'm sure he remembers you. I thought you could use these photos as a success story for P.A.W.S. Please let me know when you get more P.A.W.S bumper stickers, I would love to have one. I will send your card tommorow so look for it. I hope all is well, I think of you often. Talk to you soon." Love, Melissa Gunn and baby Jo

Bodie, now Brodie

Stephanie writes the story of Brodie's storybook adoption: "First, I want to say that Brodie is adopted b/c of Julie. At PAWS Univ, Julie and I went out early to take pics. As you all know, we have "brown-dog society" out back. For some reason, Julie spotted "Bodie" and said "Lets take pics of this dog". From that point, we all saw that he was a special boy. He was neutered, vaccinated then went to Petsmart on Saturday. Samantha and her Mom saw him and it was love at first sight. She has 5 cats at home, so we tested Hobie (on a leash) with Bodie. And, Bodie went nose to nose and wagged his tail. Her Mom was amazed. Bodie, now Brodie, went home shortly after. Samantha works with autistic children. She loves her job! This week she is going to look into therapy dog training for Brodie so that he can go to work with her. She goes to Emerald Isle every other weekend and so will Brodie. We talked through facebook this morning. Brodie worked in the yard yesterday, doesn't mind the cats and loves riding in the car. What a great life for this plain, brown dog. I personally think that this life awaits all our plain, brown dogs. This life awaits our black dogs, our bulldogs, our shy dogs. And if PAWS does not find this life for them its because we are not trying hard enough. There is a Brodie inside every dog. Thank You Julie for making eye contact and "seeing" Brodie."

Dolly

After her third appearances at the Knightdale PetSmart, Dolly was an exciting, last-minute-in-the-parking-lot adoption. Dolly's new mom writes: "Dolly is doing exceptional in her new home with her Daddy Anthony, Mommy Ali, and baby brother Graham. She loves to go on walks and play. She has a few toys that are favorites and during the day sleeps next to fellow big-brother and dogmate Mason. She is happy and healthy and we LOVE Dolly soooo very much. We look forward to spending the next decade with Dolly as part of our family!" XXXOOO

Phoebe

From Matt Storey: "Dear PAWS, Sorry it has taken so long to get these pictures to you. We adopted Phoebe from PAWS 12-23-2009. She is very loved and we cannot imagine not having her here with us. We are also including pictures of our golden retriever, Meme, who came to us 4yrs. ago as a stray. We are sending a few pictures and a few videos of them playing. hope that you get them okay and will keep you updated. We had Phoebe spayed last week and she is doing great! Thanks again for all you do and will send pictures of our cat Baby (whom we adopted two yrs ago) when she will stay in one place long enough to snap one." The Storey Family
